World Book Day 2026: building a culture of reading across every classroom
Ideas and ready-made resources to help every classroom celebrate reading — and keep it going long after the day itself.

World Book Day is the easy part — the costumes organise themselves. The harder question is what happens on 6 March, and every week after, to keep reading at the centre of classroom life.
This year we’ve built a free World Book Day pack: character-led comprehension activities, vocabulary mats for EAL learners, and discussion prompts that work from Reception to Year 9 — all editable to match the books your classes actually love.
Beyond the day itself, teachers are using Teachmate to generate weekly reading journals, book-club question sets and parent newsletters that celebrate what each class is reading. A culture of reading is built in small, regular moments — and those are much easier when the resources take minutes, not evenings.
